Well, according to TechCrunch, there is at least one ISP (RedMoon) that is inserting ads into sites that paying customers are viewing.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any problem with a completely free ISP showing ads - I used to use NetZero (free) and Juno (free) way back when. But this is something else entirely.
Not only are you, the customer, paying good money to access the internet through them, they’ve decided to place ads on websites that you view.
And if you have a website, they could be inserting ads onto your page. Annoying your customers. If you do happen to have ads, the ISP could possibly be taking your ad revenue away by doing something like this. Your ads will be competing with the ISP’s ads and you’ve got even less of a chance of the user clicking on your particular ad, if they do decide to click on ads.
I can only hope that this sort of thing doesn’t spread any further than that company.

I’m not so sure about the other shirts on this site, but I love the ‘Skywalker & Son‘ tshirt at ‘La Fraise’. How can you get any more geekily cool than that? Sure, you can blatantly display computer jokes and binary on your person, but this one is almost subtle. It looks normal at first, until you give it a second look.
I want one.

Is an internet kaleidoscope a toy? A game? I’m not entirely certain what it is, beyond absolutely mesmerizing. I keep staring at it, unable to do much more than that. And it’s such a silly thing, too! But fascinating. I’m going to have to close the window if I ever hope to do anything productive…

Admit it. Just because you’re a geek/nerd doesn’t mean you don’t occasionally need to buy something that isn’t… well, geeky or nerdy. Whether it’s for a gift or for yourself, you’ll eventually find yourself shopping in the non-geeky sections of stores.
If you’re like me, then Online Discount Mart is a store that you should definitely bookmark. They have all sorts of gifts, home and office decor (I absolutely love the Chickapelli clock!) and even, yes, gifts for the future nerd.
Online Discount Mart doesn’t have everything (you’ll have to go elsewhere if you’re wanting something especially geeky), but what it does have would make great gifts for the people that you know.

I found a couple of interesting programming languages while browsing around last night. The first would be SPL: The Shakespeare Programming Language. It’s pretty far out, considering that every program reads like a play. It seems like it’d be good for confusing someone, since it’s actually human-readable. And the ‘plays’ make some sort of odd sense, even though they are composed mostly of insults.
For another odd programming language, there is Perligata… which is Perl that can be written in Latin. It’d probably make Perl programming somewhat easier for me, if I could ever figure out Latin. Ah well.
And then if you want to get really obscure, there is Whitespace. All programs are composed entirely of spaces, tabs and new lines. Anything else gets ignored. I can’t wrap my head around how this works, but it apparently does (at least enough to write some sample programs available on the site). It’s downright crazy, if you ask me.
Of course, if those aren’t enough to make you go crazy, you can always go check out more weird programming languages.
Personally? I think I’ll stick to ‘normal’ languages… and likely count myself (slightly) saner for it.
